Safety switches are compulsory in rental properties, and from 1st July 2007 landlords will be required to install necessary smoke alarms to their rental properties and to guarantee on going maintenance.  Management Rights Managers as agents for landlords should ensure safety switches and smoke alarms are installed in accordance with Government regulations.  Check with Queensland Fire and Rescue Services website for details relevant to your Management Rights business.

An interesting spin off from the decision was the finding of the court that the Body Corporate’s legal costs were not “reasonably incurred”. This may be taken as a warning to Bodies Corporate to be careful when incurring expenses on behalf of outgoing managers, who, are forced to pay legal bills over which they have no control.  Management Rights managers could do well to support QRAMA in the great work they are doing.
